Work can be done remotely potentially or from client site in Clearwater, FL SUMMARY The Hardware or Electrical Engineer role will work closely with the system architect and product management to develop innovative products for the low vision and blind markets. In this position you will be expected to apply your knowledge and experience to turn creative ideas into impactful products. You will be actively engaged in all phases of the development lifecycle from inception to service. The preferred candidate will have experience designing Class I andor Class II medical devices which utilize embedded technologies such as ARM based processor systems, Lithium Ion battery chargers, AC Mains connected devices, CMOS imaging sensors and LCD displays. The candidate will need a demonstrable understanding of analog and digital design principles with the ability to troubleshoot down to the component level. The candidate will need a solid understanding of pertinent regulatory and safety standards. The candidate should have a basic understanding of optics for imaging devices, PCB design, manufacturing and DFM design rules. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Collect requirements, write specifications, estimate scope and schedule for design activities. Perform design verification, test planning, qualitative andor quantitative tests or evaluations of products, processes, equipment, and systems. Apply documentation guidelines and design processes per ISO 13485 Perform ISO 14971 based Risk Management activities and documentation Research and develop digital and analog circuits that meet design guidelines Troubleshoot, test and develop embedded firmware and hardware. Document and publish Patents and algorithms that are developed as a result of the research and development of hardware designs. Tools and Skills Advanced level knowledge of safety and regulatory standards related to medical devices Intermediate level understanding of ARM Cortex A and M Series processor Intermediate with schematic capture tools such as OrCad Intermediate organization and communication skills Intermediate problem-solving skills Novice level understanding of CMOS sensors, LCDs, LEDs and sensors Novice with PCB layout tools such as OrCadAllegro PCB Novice level skills with embedded software languages CC++ Novice level skills with structured PLM environments and version controls systems Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, andor ability required. International and Domestic travel is required for this position, estimated at 10-12 wks per year. Education and Experience BSEE and minimum of 5 yearsrsquo experience as Hardware Engineer or Electrical Engineer. MSEE and 3 yearsrsquo experience.
