Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Global Security is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to support our mission at the Kansas City National Security Campus.
  • The engineer in this role will be in the ME group as part of ONE Engineering and support a variety of customers and projects across the national security mission space.
  • Summary of Duties:

  • Executes a variety of moderately complex and complex engineering assignments and provides detailed instructions in the design and/or technical scope of new and current projects, products, programs, components, tools and acceptance equipment under technical guidance of higher level engineers or departmental management
  • Participates in establishing operating procedures for new products and components
  • Develops test procedures and performs engineering evaluation tests, product and process capability studies, quality audits, product or project data reviews, and other engineering evaluation work
  • Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, and makes recommendations for product, fixtures, procedures and manufacturing or operating processes that improve productivity and quality and reduce flowtime
  • Interacts with tool makers and process engineers to ensure designs are manufacturable
  • Prepares technical data packages for prototypes and low rate production assemblies
  • Defines and acquires tooling, gaging and other equipment necessary to manufacture parts and to assure product quality
  • Interacts with and presents to design agencies, suppliers and/or internal organizations to assist in resolving design, development, production and acceptance issues
  • Provides technical assistance in appropriate assigned field
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding technological advances that improve productivity and quality, reduce flow-time, and enhance operational surety; Influences technical direction and decision–making
  • Mentors and coaches earlier in career engineers and technicians

  • This position is located in Kansas City, Missouri.

    You Must Have:

  • U.S. Citizenship required to obtain and maintain require US Department of Energy 'Q'-Level Security Clearance
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Seven (7) or more years’ experience in engineering design or manufacturing with prior experience working on DoD and/or SPP sponsored projects
  • We Value:

  • Ability to interface effectively with support organizations, internal customers, and external customers through oral or written communication
  • Experience planning and executing projects with ambiguous requirements and developing them into technical and functional requirements that drive project success
  • Ability to lead technical teams through complex individual tasks or projects
  • Comfortable and confident presenting and interacting with high level internal and external stakeholders to ensure technical considerations are communicated
  • Demonstrated complex mechanical design with an emphasis on manufacturability
  • Some knowledge and experience with PM processes and framework to successfully lead a technical project
