Engineering Technician/ Designer (Twinsburg, Ohio)
Our client in plastics (fixtures, point of purchase displays, etc.) is currently hiring an Engineering Technician to work in Industrial Design capacity completing new protype models. This position is a Direct Hire role. Summary:
This is a hands-on role that will be doing machine and technical work. The right person will be skilled in model making, Industrial Design Coordination/ Model Making / Pattern Making, and also 3D cad (Solidworks preferred). Under the direction of the supervisor, this individual will be responsible for building custom prototypes to engineering specifications for any potential new products or customer projects. Candidate will design and build custom prototypes for new and custom projects. Candidate must be knowledgeable in Solidworks to complete designs and build samples to theses specifications using CNC & manual equipment. They must be able to determine materials, tools, and equipment requirements for each prototype, design and build weld fixture. 3 -5 yrs. of fab/modeling/Machining exp., also formal training, or apprenticeship background helpful. Responsibilities:
Partner with Industrial Design to make prototypes from a variety of materials, build models for new product development in the merchandising industry.
Design, develop and construct mechanical models and devices. (As-needed, use lathes, milling machines, boring bars, drill presses, soldering and hand tools, and other equipment to build parts).
Build custom prototypes and standard samples to specifications using CNC or manual equipment.
Determine materials, tools, and equipment requirements for each prototype request. Design and build Weld Fixtures as needed for prototype production.
Work with Engineering to keep Prototype list up-to-date with projects, priorities, and due dates.
Ensure prototypes meet the drawing and design requirements as documented by Engineering.
Communicate design concerns and improvements, drawing errors and changes to Engineering via marked up drawings.
Complete all required documentation as needed. Qualifications:
3-5 years of fabrication/model making/machine experience.
Machine shop, Welding, Fabrication / Construction/ Prototype background preferred.
Expertise in prototype finishing and assembly in the consumer products industry preferred.
Formal training or apprenticeship a plus.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Good mechanical background with strong math skills (Basic, Geometry, Trig).
Knowledge of Solidworks, CAD 3-D graphic and manufacturing drawings.
