Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking an Environmental Scientist or Geologist for work with remedial investigations and site cleanups in our Bayside, Queens NY office. The work will involve supporting subsurface investigations, treatment process design and remedial system operations & maintenance on government and commercial remediation systems. Wood is a multi-disciplinary science/engineering/architecture firm and offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in environmental sampling, data evaluation and report preparation as well as excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and will be a proactive problem solver. This position offers the opportunity to be a task leader on groundwater and soil vapor sampling assignments; to interact with clients and senior staff in other Wood offices; to contribute to the growth of the Bayside NY office, and collaborate with staff in multiple disciplines while executing the following roles/responsibilities: Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments Brownfield and Superfund investigations & cleanups Support remedial operating systems, for example, groundwater extraction and treatment systems and soil vapor extraction systems Prepare Work Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, and Remedial Action Plans Prepare requests for proposals and assist in subcontractor procurement Oversee remedial action implementation Oversee operation and maintenance of remediation systems and document site operations in routine monitoring reports Analyze and interpret environmental data and prepare tables & figures Prepare monitoring or investigation reports
Skills / Qualifications
Basic/Required Qualifications: BS in a related field 5+/-years of sampling and reporting experience with progressing levels of responsibility Understanding of environmental remediation technologies and treatment systems such as soil vapor extraction systems, multiphase extraction, groundwater extraction/injection, LNAPL recovery, air sparging, carbon adsorption, air stripping, and oxidation Experience with preparing purchase orders and change orders Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational abilities Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail Ability and willingness to travel to project sites; anticipated travel expected to be less than 20% overnight travel; however, extended travel up to two weeks is possible at times Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client needs Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if required Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
Preferred Qualifications: 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety Training Working knowledge of the use of GIS, AutoCAD or Surfer software Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Attention to detail Self-starter and lifelong learner
